Black-Oxide

Black Oxide

Black oxide is a conversion coating for ferrous materials applied most commonly on steel.  When applied, an attractive black finish is obtained.  The high-temperature black oxide process is essentially a chemical conversion of the steel surface and does not change surface dimensions significantly.

Advantages

  • Zero dimensional impact
  • Anti-galling
  • Apply oil as a supplemental treatment
  • Provides mild corrosion protection
  • Improved lubricity

Purpose/Function

Offered on steel only, not stainless

  • Improves wear resistance
  • Little to no dimensional change
